FORMER Huddersfield artist Darren Baker is working on a new piece - and it could bring him worldwide fame.

Darren, formerly of Meltham, is producing a painting of the Jonny Wilkinson drop-goal which clinched the Rugby World Cup for England against Australia.

And it is hoped the finished painting will be signed by the entire England team and 1,000 limited edition prints will be made available.

Darren, who now lives and works in Saltaire, has been commissioned by the Halcyon Gallery, of London, which is acting for an art collector.

He has already produced a charcoal sketch of the famous sporting moment and hopes to work on the final piece in pastels over the next few weeks.

It is a change of sporting code for the artist, who made his name capturing footballers on canvas as the official artist for the Professional Footballers' Association.

But he, like Wilkinson, has risen to the challenge.
