FOUR Huddersfield artists are to show their work at a Christmas exhibition organised by the British Watercolour Society and the British Society of Miniaturists.

The exhibition will run from November 27 to December 5 at Ilkley's Winter Gardens.

Artists exhibiting will include Holmfirth man Maurice Lockwood, who will show three watercolours and three pastel pictures of Yorkshire country scenes.

Slaithwaite artist Martin Phillip Taylor is exhibiting six Picasso-inspired pencil sketches, while Upper Denby artist Malcolm Beaumont will show six pictures of animals and nature.

Keith Harris, of Hepworth, will exhibit six watercolours showing views of Spain.

Mr Harris is a former winner of the exhibition's Mail on Sunday prize.

The local artists will be joined by Russian artist Maria Coutinho, 34, who was a child prodigy in the field of painting miniatures.

She now lives and works in New Jersey in the USA.

This year's exhibition will be opened by Coronation Street actress Tina O'Brien, who plays teenage mum Sarah Platt in the soap.

The exhibition opens from 11am to 4pm each day and entry costs £2.50.
