ARTWORKS to celebrate Shelley village have been unveiled.

Two interpretation boards with illustrations by artist Dorothy Burkinshaw and frames by wrought iron sculptor Paul Asquith aim to capture the past and present spirit of the village.

The two boards, at Shelley Green and Armitage Garden Centre, were unveiled by community helpers Bryan and Margaret Wiggans of Shelley Methodist Church.

The project began in 2004 after Shelley won the Calor Yorkshire and Northern Village of the Year award.

Project committee member Ann Priestman said: “We feel the boards are a celebration of our community past and present. Although Shelley won the title in 2004, it’s as relevant today as it was then.

“The boards are a snapshot of a community spirit that’s still beating strongly.”
