STUDENTS at a high school are sending messages to South Africa.

Year 7 pupils at Colne Valley High are taking part in a postcard exchange with pupils at a school in the Eastern Cape region.

They have been drawing postcards showing something important to them and writing a message on the other side.

Co-ordinator Tim Padmore, a drama teacher, said: "This is a great opportunity for our pupils to communicate with young people on the other side of the world. It will help them to become global citizens."

It is hoped that children from South Africa will write similar postcards to the pupils at Linthwaite.

The project is part of a nationwide scheme run by Link Community Development and the British Museum in London. It will include a display of some of the postcards in the museum.
