PLANS for a futuristic new flats complex in Huddersfield will go ahead, insist developers.

Middlesbrough firm JR Property Developments wants to transform derelict land at Aspley into a striking, glass-fronted block of 178 flats called The Armadillo.

Work was planned to start in autumn 2006 and last 18 months.

But so far the site has remained a car park owned by Huddersfield University at the junction of Wakefield Road and King’s Mill Lane.

A row of mainly derelict terraced houses which border the site on Somerset Road would be demolished to make way for the complex.

A spokesman for the developers said the work had been delayed but was still due to go ahead.
