A MAN was attacked and robbed after coming to Huddersfield to meet a girl.

The 19-year-old victim and a friend had travelled over from Leeds and met up with the girl and two other young people in Greenhead Park yesterday afternoon.

But shortly after 4.30pm they started to be hassled by a gang of around four men in their late teens who began to hurl soil and rocks at them.

They ran off, but the gang caught the Leeds man and he was threatened, kicked and punched.

The thieves suggested they had a knife and stole a mobile phone and wallet from the victim.

Two teenagers aged 17 and 18 from Huddersfield were arrested a short time later at the town’s bus station. They have been kept in police custody overnight and were due to be questioned further today.

Police are still hunting two others.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees CID, said: “We would urge anyone who saw the attack in the park which happened near the paddling pool to come forward along with anyone else who has information about this.’’
