OPPONENTS of 24-hour fast food in Marsh are fighting plans for another takeaway.

Shopkeepers along Westbourne Road and members of the Marsh Forum believe another takeaway would lead to an increase in vandalism and litter.

Mark Bajerski has applied for the change of use to a hot food takeaway at his premises Cheap As Chips at the corner of Westbourne Road and Croft House Lane.

Don't Forget card shop owner Alison Rayner said: "Within 100 metres of the proposed site there are nine existing outlets for takeaway food. Why do we want or need another?"

She said that traders had become so worried about the threat of criminal damage they had jointly hired a security guard who checked the area at night.

But auctioneer Mr Bajerski, who has just opened a third branch of his business Cheap As Chips in Marsh, said he had no imminent plans to turn the shop into a takeaway.

"Everybody's panicking for nothing. I wish I hadn't applied now," he said.
