AUSCHWITZ survivor Teofil Modelski spoke about his horrific experiences during the second world war to second year A-level history students at Huddersfield Technical College.

Mr Modelski, who lives in Fartown, survived in concentration camps for more than five years.

He spent three years in Auschwitz and survived a further two years in Buchenwald before being liberated by the Americans in 1946.

He spoke for about an hour to students, reading his memoirs and showing photographs and mementos including his Auschwitz identity card.

He then answered questions from students.

The students are studying the second world war as part of their European history syllabus.
