IT'S official - Kirklees Labour councillors and activists are the best in the country at working with local residents.

The Kirklees Labour Party has won a national award for "Best Practice" in building relations with residents.

The Labour Party's award scheme for local government is designed to encourage Labour Groups to improve public services, build relations with residents, promote good democracy and work with communities to improve local areas.

Clr Mehboob Khan, Leader of Kirklees Labour Group, said: "I am very pleased that we are regarded as the best in the country and recognition has been given for the hard work put in by Labour councillors and activists working all year round.

"As a local party we are very proud of our achievements and will strive to do even better to serve local people."

The local website Kirklees.Labour.co.uk was also highlighted as first-rate.

The Best Practice Awards took place at the Labour Spring Conference that was held in Gateshead.
