THE search is on for West Yorkshire’s best work-based student.
A new award, the West Yorkshire Vocational Learner 2008, has been launched by the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network, which is based at Huddersfield University.
The £10m project is working to increase skill levels in West Yorkshire.
The Network aims to strengthen the economy and businesses by improving the skills of the area’s workforce.
It works closely with employers to identify the skills they need and then feeds this information into higher education, so that courses can be developed and students can gain relevant skills and experience.
The Learner award invites employers, learners and course providers to nominate a work-based learner who has progressed into higher education. The nominations will be assessed by a judging panel and the winners will be announced during Adult Learners Week, from May 17 to 23.
The winner will receive their award at an event at Leeds Civic Hall on June 12. This event will also a celebration of the Network’s first anniversary.
