A SCHEME to get youngsters interested in cricket has won an award.

The Youth Sport Trust has given the Pennine School Sport Partnership one of only four Regional Sports Awards.

The accolade recognises schools working with community clubs to encourage more young people through an initiative called car park cricket.

Paddock Cricket Club’s innovative idea, which saw games played in supermarket car parks, has now been nominated for a national award. Yorkshire County Cricket are now taking up the programme and will help Paddock and the School Sport Partnership to promote the sessions.

Debbie Speed of the Youth Sport Trust presented Hugh Golbourne from the club, Jonathon Schofield, Head of PE at Royds Hall High School and Brenda Hilton, the Pennine School Sport Partnership Development Manager, with the award.
