SCHOOL children went on the march to show their disgust at people who drop litter.

Pupils from Lindley Infant School, in East Street, marched into the village with placards they had made urging people to use the bins.

The demonstration was part of the school's successful bid to retain its Eco-School Award, handed out by the Tidy Britain group, for another three years.

Headteacher Sue Drake, of Birchencliffe, said: "We are very concerned with the environment here and we teach our children from a very young age that it is important to look after their surroundings.

"We have done lots of work with them and this was part of spreading the message.

"It was a great day because all the community came out and supported us on our way around the village.

Kirklees environment education officer, Mike Goodwin said Lindley was the only infant school in Kirklees with the Eco-School Award.
