THREE young cadets have used their Army skills to gain a formal qualification.

Lance Corporals Peter Steadman and Michael Holmes, and Corporal Jess Nunns, from the Army cadet detachment in Thongsbridge, took part in an intensive weekend course in York to get a BTEC award in public services.

The cadets were asked to call on their knowledge and experience from their training to complete a detailed, assignment involving the application of practical skills such as map reading, planning, leadership and organisation, culminating in a demanding 15-mile expedition over the two days.

The BTEC award is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A-C grade, and is useful for young people who are hoping to move on to higher education. The cadet detachment also offers involvement in the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and St John’s Ambulance first aid qualifications.
