POLICE in Calderdale are to be honoured for their bravery.

An awards evening in Halifax tomorrow will single out officers who have done heroic deeds or solved difficult cases.

The awards include police commendations and St John Ambulance certificates.

Commendations will be presented to:

* Pc Jayne Moore and Pc Faiz Alam for their courage rescuing a man from a badly damaged and dangerous car in Stainland Road, Greetland, in April.

* Pc Keith Gribbin for his dedication and conscientious work investigating the serious wounding and death of a valuable horse in the Elland area in July.

* Special Constables Scott Williams and Sohail Akhtar for their dedication and persistence when they dealt with an incident at the Ritz Ballroom in Brighouse in July. They chased and successfully arrested three people - including one who was drunk and violent.

A St John Ambulance Letter of Appreciation will go to Sgt Garry Alderson and Pc Duncan Cliffe for trying to save the life of a man who collapsed at a shop in Brighouse last December.

Despite their efforts, the man died in hospital.
