A SUCCESSFUL swimming project for babies is being extended.

Flippers Swim Babes will now be offering baby swimming classes as part of a programme called Starfish.

Flippers Swim Babes operates across Yorkshire and Derbyshire, including at Huddersfield's Trinity Hydrotherapy Pool and the Inkerman Pool at Denby Dale.

Roger Millward, of the Swimming Teachers' Association, said: "We're delighted to welcome Flippers Swim Babes to the Starfish family.

"I am sure parents and guardians across Yorkshire are thrilled to have specialist baby swimming classes available."

The classes are specifically designed for babies from birth and will involve clear and structured teaching.

There will be six progressive levels. Parents and babies are given incentives with certificates and woven badges.

Mr Millward said: "Although children won't be co-ordinated enough to learn to swim properly until they are a little older, parents can help them to feel confident and relaxed in the water and make swimming a fun way to exercise.

"The swimming classes aim to make parents aware of the importance of introducing their baby to the water early, while creating a fun and positive experience."
