VERY special postcards have been dropping through the doors of houses in Brackenhall and Deighton.

They are asking for help with a project being run by Kirklees Council's community history service.

The Our House scheme will record people's memories of living in Brackenhall and Deighton.

The aim is to create an exhibition next summer telling the story of the area - in particular the Brackenhall estate, where the exhibition will be put in an empty house.

The postcards encouraging residents to come forward with stories and reminiscences have been created from artwork by 28-year-old Emma Griffin, who lives on the Brackenhall estate.

Mum-of-two Emma created the image of the house she has lived in for eight years when she went to family art workshops in the summer.

Emma's artwork and other works produced by local people were unveiled at the Ashbrow Children's Centre in October.

Some 1,300 postcards featuring Emma's design are being delivered in the area.

They tell residents that community history service staff will be out and about collecting stories and photographs.

Alternatively, anyone with a tale or two to tell can get in touch with Penny Green or Neil West on 01484 223802.

Penny said:

"People might not think they have a story to tell. But it is their experiences of moving into and living in that area, their happy memories and their sad ones that we want to know about."

As part of the project a memory garden is being created at the exhibition house.
