AMBULANCE officials are warning people to take extra care as West Yorkshire looks set to endure cold weather and some snowfall.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) said bad weather put an additional strain on its resources.

The comments came as the region braced itself for sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow over the coming days.

Forecasters have said up to 10cm of snow could hit the Huddersfield area this week.

YAS spokesman David Williams said a deterioration in driving conditions meant crews were called to more road accidents.

It also meant more people suffering falls on icy paths and roads.

Genuine emergencies should still prompt a call to the ambulance service, said Mr Williams.
