BAGSHAW Museum in Batley is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and to mark the milestone a series of events and activities are being organised.

Staff are asking people if they have any memories or stories to share about Bagshaw.

Museum officer Rachel Bentley said: “I’m sure people have stories and photographs of their own or passed down to them from previous generations that will tell us about the role Bagshaw has played in the life of Batley.”

Rachel is looking through the museum’s scrapbooks searching for highlights and exciting stories in its 100-year-long history.

Bagshaw was built in 1875/6 as a home by the local mill owner and businessman George Sheard. The house was then bought by another local businessman in 1909 and gifted to Batley corporation. On April 15, 1911, it was opened as a museum.

Anyone who has a tale to tell about Bagshaw should contact Rachel on 01924 326155, email Rachel.bentley@kirklees.gov.uk or call into the museum.
