A WOMAN arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud the local election process has been released on bail, police said today.

The woman, 50, was detained yesterday morning following a raid in Birmingham in which a large number of postal voting forms were recovered, West Midlands Police said.

She was arrested ahead of next month's local elections at an address in Ronald Road in the Bordesley Green area of the city and released last night pending further inquiries.

A second raid was carried out on Wednesday by the force's economic crime unit in nearby Hob Moor Road, where further material was recovered.

Meanwhile, in London, Scotland Yard said officers were continuing to look at suspicious activities in seven London boroughs.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said investigations were taking place in Harrow, Kensington and Chelsea, Merton, Southwark, Hounslow, Tower Hamlets and Barnet.
