Appeal over care home plans

AN appeal has been launched after Calderdale councillors rejected plans for a new care home and shops. Councillors on the planning committee refused permission for the care home, Co-op and retail units in Bailiff Bridge. Now the applicant, CP Group Ltd, has launched an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate. The appeal will be decided in a hearing and after a site visit by an inspector. In October councillors had decided that the site at the junction of Birkby Lane and Bradford Road was too small, there was no outdoor space for the care home’s residents and they didn’t like the design of it. They also had concerns about traffic issues arising from the development. But the applicant says the schemes would have created dozens of new jobs and revived an area which has been neglected in recent years. To comment on the plans visit www.planningportal.gov.uk/pcs
