THIRTEEN people had to flee from after a rock band’s coach caught fire on the M62.

Two lanes of the westbound carriageway between junctions 22 (Ripponden) and 23 (Outlane) were closed for two hours on Saturday morning.

Six fire crews, from Elland, Halifax and Greater Manchester, dealt with the fire on the double-decker coach.

A fire brigade spokesman said the coach driver did not realise there was excess smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Passing motorists had tried in vain to alert the driver. When he became aware of the smoke he pulled on to the hard shoulder.

Everybody quickly got off the coach, which immediately burst into flames.

The unnamed rock band were asleep in the upstairs of the coach.

The vehicle was in convoy with another bus which drove on. No-one was injured.
