A SHORTAGE of entrants let a brass band contest down, its secretary said.

Only 10 bands competed in the challenge at Colne Valley High School, Linthwaite.

Secretary of the 20th annual Pogson-Bray contest, Alan Kaye, said: "The music was grand, but the contest could have done with more entrants."

Youth and Section B bands performed a hymn tune and their own choice contest piece. Section A Bands performed a contest march and their own contest piece.

The adjudicator was Steve Pritchard Jones.
