TWO newly-refurbished bandstands will be included in a summer-long brass band spectacular.

The bandstands in Greenhead Park and Beaumont Park will both feature in a schedule of summer concerts in Kirklees parks.

Both have been revamped as part of major renovation projects over the past few months.

A council spokesman said: “This year’s Brass in the Park promises to be better than ever, with 24 free concerts for residents and visitors to enjoy over the Summer. “They provide the perfect way to spend a Summer afternoon and there will be concerts taking place every weekend from May through to September.

“Kirklees is world-renowned for its long history of brass band music and Kirklees Council is delighted to maintain and extend this tradition with the season featuring many top quality local brass bands.

“This year there are two youth bands performing, Sellers International Youth and Scissett Youth. Following their popularity last year Brass Monkeys jazz are making a return visit along with a new addition this year, Hade Edge Jazz, bringing us brass with a difference.”

Greenhead Park will make a welcome return as a popular venue this season, following its extensive restoration programme.

The refurbished bandstand now has the reinstated lake close by, providing a great place to enjoy a day out and listen to some great music.

The bandstand at Beaumont Park is also due to be returned to its former glory by June.

September 25 sees the return of The Bandstand Marathon in Greenhead Park, part of a national initiative in celebration of the Cultural Olympiad and to promote the use of bandstands in parks.

The spokesman added: “Due to limited resources seating cannot be provided at concerts.

“Whilst there may be a few spare chairs at some venues, people are advised to bring their own garden chairs, rugs or fold-up seating with them if required.”
