THE man who plays bad-boy Cain Dingle in TV's Emmerdale was caught speeding on the M62 - because he needed to rush to the toilet.

And actor Jeffrey Percy, 34, fears he could lose his job as a result of the six-month driving ban he received at Calderdale Magistrates' Court in Halifax.

The court heard Percy had been travelling at 92mph on the M62 above Scammonden when he was stopped by police. He told them: "I suffer from Crohn's Disease and I need to get to the nearest service station."

The actor immediately launched an appeal against the ban.

Percy, of Saffron Walden, Essex, already had nine points on his licence.

In mitigation, Percy said he had been trying to get to the nearest service station after suffering bowel-crippling effects of Crohn's Disease.

"The condition causes me severe difficulties but this is the first occasion I have had problems on the road."

Percy added: "Each year contracts are renewed and mine is currently in negotiation. My agent won't be able to get me a contract if I can't drive."

Sentencing Percy, chairman of the bench Marion Griffith said: "We don't feel that special needs are relevant in this case because after the police stopped you, you were able to drive to the service station at a normal speed."
