A BANNED driver who led police on a high-speed chase in a car he had taken after a drinking session has been jailed.

Lee Greenwood, 21, of Lydgate Close, New Mill, took the vehicle from a car park last May. Police saw him driving it in Golcar the next day.

Bradford Crown Court was told that Greenwood sped away and accelerated through a junction at Sycamore Avenue.

He reached 60mph and veered on to the wrong side of the road before losing control, spinning 180 degrees and coming to rest on a grass verge.

He was arrested and told police: "The car's nicked as well."

At an earlier hearing Greenwood, who has previous convictions for similar offences, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving over the legal alcohol limit.

The court was told he had been at a festival and had drunk a considerable amount of alcohol.

Judge Rodney Grant - jailing Greenwood for 15 months - said it was lucky nobody had been hurt.

Greenwood was also banned from driving for three years and will have to take an extended test before he gets his licence back.
