A banned driver got behind the wheel to flee his attackers, a court heard.

Kevin Harrison, 36, fled to a supermarket car park where he was attacked by a gang wielding weapons.

The road rage incident happened outside Asda in Dewsbury on August 13.

Kirklees magistrates heard that police attended at the ongoing scene and a witness described how Harrison had been attacked by a number of males with weapons.

Peter Smith, mitigating, said: “The defendant was approached, threatened and escaped in the car.

“He got to the Asda car park where he was attacked. It wasn’t his intention to drive that day.”

Harrison pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance or a licence.

The 36-year-old admitted committing the same set of offences on November 17 when officers on patrol in the Dewsbury area stopped his Vauxhall Corsa because he was driving too fast.

Harrison, of Heron Close in Ravensthorpe, was banned from driving in June 2015 for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Magistrates were told that he has never passed a driving test.

Harrison was banned from driving for an extra 12 months and ordered to complete 15 days of rehabilitation activities.
