IT WAS a charity bargain hunt for shoppers in Shelley.

Denby Dale Lions Club held an auction at the village hall.

Bargain hunters could bag an early Christmas present from one of more than 250 lots.

More than 60 people were at the sale, which included everything from children's electric motorcycles through to footstools to jewellery and vouchers for goods and services at local businesses.

Activities chairman Linton Bentley said the sale had attracted a bumper turnout.

He added: "This year we had some really good lots and a lot of people came along to support us.

"We hope to raise at least £1,000.

"The money will be split between Shelley Village Hall and other charities in the area."
