A PLAN for a wind turbine which divided village opinion has been rejected.

Calderdale councillors refused the application for a 50m high wind turbine on land south of Gosling Lane, Barkisland.

The application split village opinion – with 33 opposing the plan and 15 in support of it.

Concerns were raised about the impact on birdlife and the wider greenbelt land.

Others praised it, saying the authority needs to support green sources of energy.

But councillors voted against the application, in line the with planning officers’ recommendation, which said it was not in accordance with planning policy.
