A RURAL pub has been given permission to open later.

The Fleece Inn at Barkisland was granted approval by councillors on the licensing Panel to open until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

It’s an hour less than they had originally applied for as the applicant amended the time from 1am to midnight.

But the proposals by The Fleece Inn, which is undergoing renovations and will open later this month as a rural pub and wedding venue, were opposed by a number of local residents and Ripponden Parish Council.

Ten residents objected with concern ranging from rowdy drinkers to increased noise and traffic in the early hours.

The pub has said it will sign up to Pubwatch Scheme, will encourage smokers to use the rear of the pub away from homes and install CCTV.

Earlier this year the Fleece Inn was given permission for a single storey rear extension to include a roof terrace and glass balustrade, re-arrangement of the car park and access and a new bin store.
