HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman chose Yorkshire Day to plead for more investment for the region.

The MP called for a vigorous campaign to reinvigorate Yorkshire.

Mr Sheerman said: “Yorkshire has been losing out to London, the South East, Scotland and other northern regions.

“The time has come for a new focus and strategy for a Yorkshire of high skills, high innovation and high aspiration.

“Many parts of Yorkshire now suffer from low investment, low skills and high unemployment.

“I am calling for a Yorkshire Commission which will provide the county with the leadership and focus that we have lost. Yorkshire has so many strengths and so much talent but we must have a renaissance of Yorkshire enterprise.

“Above all, we must set our standards high and provide a strategy for development and change before it is too late.”
