A FIRE officer was not short of volunteers when his crew was faced with a damsel in distress.

A woman in her 20s had a bath at her Lindley home – but then the door lock jammed and she was unable to get out.

After an hour shouting for help from her East Street home she alerted a passerby who called firefighters at 10am yesterday.

One of the crew members from Huddersfield fire station clambered up a ladder and in through the bathroom window where the woman was wrapped in a towel.

He then dismantled the lock to free her.

Crew Manager Wayne Ogden said: “I wasn’t short of volunteers to be the ‘knight in shining armour’ on this job.’’
