A man has admitted driving his car into a garden wall while drunk.

Lee Blakeley of Beechdale Avenue in Batley, was almost three times over the limit when he crashed a Toyota Yaris owned by his partner on July 29 on Windy Bank Lane in Liversedge.

Blakeley, 28, admitted to driving whilst over the limit and also to driving a vehicle without a licence.

Police who attended the scene said Blakeley smelled of alcohol and told them he had been drinking the night before but thought that he was safe to drive.

Mitigating, his solicitor Rajid Majid, said it was his first appearance in court.

“He is very emotional. This is both due to remorse and his relationship circumstances.”

Lead magistrate John Woocy gave Blakeley credit for his guilty plea but sentenced him to a six month community order with a drug rehabilitation requirement under Lifeline.

He was disqualified from driving for 23 months, but this could be reduced if he undertakes a drink drive rehabilitation course by December 4 2017.

Blakeley was also ordered to pay an £85 fine and an £85 victim surcharge £85.
