A DRIVER from Batley who died in a road smash in Scotland is expected to be named today.

The 22-year-old was killed when his Suzuki Swift was involved in a three-car crash on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road on Monday.

The incident happened near Springholm village between Dumfries and Castle Douglas at about 4pm.

Four people from Wigtownshire, who were travelling in a Vauxhall Vectra, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the third car involved, a Vauxhall Astra, escaped unhurt.

The road has in the past been described as a “goat track” because of its poor condition.

Campaigners have called for it to be upgraded.

The road was closed between Dumfries and Castle Douglas for eight hours while an accident investigation was carried out.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.

A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary confirmed that the victim was due to be named today.
