This year the school had a small group  of just 36 students sitting A levels.

They passed 96% of all subjects, with 52% achieving grade C or above.

Top performing students were Shujahat Shabir, Farah Andaleeb, Anneka Sian, Megan Jones and Sophie Costello.

The range of ability was extremely diverse, with students opting to take anything from one to four A levels. Value added indicators showed that 81% made expected progress, while 39% made better than expected progress by a grade or more.

A spokesman said: “Of course these exam results only tell half the story. Such academic success has also been matched by equally outstanding performances out of the classroom.

“These students have made the most of the opportunities on offer, ranging from the Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to the community work, volunteering, enterprise and fund raising projects in which they have enthusiastically participated.

“These students have been exemplary role models for the younger age groups and we wish them well for the next stage in their lives.  Between them they are now moving on to study a fascinating range of courses at university.

“At Batley Grammar School we certainly pride ourselves in helping to create confident, rounded individuals and enriched young citizens that will contribute to the community.

“Our students come from diverse backgrounds and the grades they have achieved not only reflect their hard work and determination, but also the support and encouragement from our dedicated team of highly qualified staff."
