A 22-YEAR-old Batley man has died in a three-car crash in Scotland.

The incident happened on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road near Springholm village between Dumfries and Castle Douglas at about 4pm yesterday.

The Batley man was driving a Suzuki Swift.

Four people from Wigtownshire, who were travelling in a Vauxhall Vectra, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the third car involved, a Vauxhall Astra, escaped unhurt.

The road was closed between Dumfries and Castle Douglas for eight hours while an accident investigation was carried out.

The A75 Gretna to Stranraer Euro road is well known in that part of Scotland.

It came runner-up in a survey of more than 3,000 motorcycle riders for the best road in the UK.

Good road service, flowing corners and, “amazing views” were named as its key attributes.

But it has, in the past, been described as “a goat track” by many residents and politicians campaigning for the upgrading of the route.
