A MAN killed in a motorway crash has been named.

Steven Martin Cracknell, of Smithies Moor Lane, in Batley, died when the van in which he was a passenger was in collision with four other vehicles on the M5.

The 22-year-old was rushed to Worcester Royal Hospital following the accident between Junctions 9 and 8 in Gloucestershire.

Mr Cracknell suffered a cardiac arrest and died shortly after arriving at hospital.

The 27-year-old driver of the van, who is from Mirfield, remains in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham today after suffering significant head and chest injuries.

He was thrown from his vehicle during the collision, which involved two lorries, a car and another van.

The lorry driver also suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened on Tuesday evening. Emergency workers took two hours to cut him out of his cab.
