Two women came to blows in a cat-fight over a man, a court heard.

Chelsea Watson, a 27-year-old single mother, of West Park Grove, Healey, Batley, bit her love rival Toni Kitcher on the inner thigh, pulled her by her hair and punched her in a shocking incident witnessed by the complainant’s two young kids aged six and four.

Ben Crosland, prosecuting, told Kirklees Magistrates problems began when the defendant suspected Toni of having an affair with Christopher Beldon.

He said: “Mr Beldon knew Toni and their friendship became closer. The defendant found out about that and although it was not entirely clear what the state of the relationship was the defendant believed that they had begun a relationship.

“From June 2 to the 14th the defendant sent via Facebook a number of unpleasant, threatening and abusive messages to her telling her to watch her back. She would be there every day until she got the complainant”.

Matters came to a head on June 5 at Mr Beldon’s flat.

The scuffle ended with Mr Beldon and a neighbour pulling the two women apart as the children cried.

Mr Crosland said that that was not the end of the matter as nine days later on June 14 the complainant received several messages from the defendant.

One of them read: “You are welcome to the scruffy drunk. He is all yours,” and “you got off lightly last week because he stopped me but I have had enough.”

A trial was due to take place but at the last minute Miss Watson pleaded guilty to assaulting Toni and sending Facebook messages causing the complainant anxiety.

In mitigation, Peter Hampson, said Watson had been in a nine month relationship with Mr Beldon and on the day in question had spent the whole day with him leaving her to think there had been a reconciliation and they were a couple again.

The matter was adjourned until Friday and Watson was released on unconditional bail.
