A HUDDERSFIELD area businessman battled against 120 others in the Armed Forces annual challenge for executives in the North.

Sales engineer, Martin Hoyland, 34, from Reliance Precision Mechatronics in Lepton, joined executives from all over Yorkshire and the North-East in the gruelling challenges of Exercise Executive Stretch at Catterick barracks, North Yorkshire.

Martin, who lives in Lepton, was a member of the Orange Team of 10 people from a wide variety of jobs.

"It was like nothing I have ever done before.

"I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was brilliant," said Martin.

"Our spirits were very high and we bonded well as a team, getting to know each other very well, very quickly due to the high amount of teamwork tasks."

Martin built and then paddled a raft across a lake, reversed a light tank through cones, evacuated casualties through obstacles blindfold, defused an imitation bomb and tried his hand at paintballing.
