TWO Huddersfield policemen will be swapping handcuffs for running shoes when they take part in Sunday's London Marathon.

Det Con Richard Ford, 34, and Pc Jeremy Burkinshaw, 35, are teaming up to raise cash for charity by running the 26-mile race.

Richard, from Holmfirth, and Jeremy, of Shepley, will be running for two causes, Huddersfield Alzheimer's Society and Action Medical Research.

The duo have been in serious training since Christmas.

Richard, who lives with his partner and four-year-old child, said: "We have been training around Kirklees around four or five times a week.

"I have even been running to and from work.

"The hardest bit has been the hills in this area, which have been quite challenging.

"I am feeling very apprehensive about Sunday. But I am going to do it - no matter how hard it will be."

He said he had chosen to run for the Huddersfield Alzheimer's Society because a family member was affected by the condition.

The money raised for Action Medical Research will be used to pay for medical breakthroughs.

Anybody interested in sponsoring them is asked to contact Det Con Ford on 07930 476538.
