A new academy which will house 630 primary age children is set to open in Crosland Moor in September.

And a Huddersfield teacher Debbie Kelly is to lead the new venture as Principal.

Beaumont Primary Academy in Dryclough Road will initially accept 90 Reception age children.

Sited in the grounds of Moor End Academy it will at first operate in temporary, purpose-built accommodation until the new build is completed. Work on the site is expected to start later this year.

But over the coming years, numbers will mushroom with it growing to become a 630-place primary academy, making it one of the biggest primary schools in Huddersfield, offering a breakfast club and afterschool activities.

Debbie Kelly, currently deputy head teacher at Spring Grove Junior, Infant and Nursery School, is delighted with her new post.

She said: “This is a once in a lifetime career opportunity to lead a brand new Academy. “Working for Jane Acklam, CEO of the Multi Academy Trust and executive Principal of Moor End Academy will provide me with an outstanding successful role model and to say I am excited and proud would be an understatement.

“We will create exciting learning experiences, which will allow our children to fulfil their potential. The children will be engaged in active, creative and enjoyable learning experiences.

“In school, we have a duty to ensure children receive their entitlement to the highest quality education and that is exactly what we will provide.

“Our children will achieve high academic standards and be ready for the demands of high school. Sporting excellence will be part of our core offer. We will work closely with Stuart Hilary, Associate Senior Leader for PE and sport at Moor End to achieve this.

“Outdoor Learning and the arts will play a key role in our curriculum with outdoor experiences that motivate pupils across the curriculum. Being located next door to Beaumont Park will provide unrivalled opportunities for a richly enhanced curriculum.”
