A HUDDERSFIELD takeaway owner who dumped his rubbish in a beauty spot has been ordered to pay more than £1,200.

Mohammed Ramzan, of the Punjabi Hut on Blackmoorfoot Road, Crosland Moor, threw his rubbish away in Heaton Woods, Bradford.

The city's magistrates were told that waste such as dirty boxes and bags were dumped in the woods between November and January.

Ramzan was caught after people living nearby complained.

Receipts found in the rubbish were traced back to the takeaway.

In court Ramzan pleaded guilty to three counts of unlicensed disposal of waste.

When he was interviewed he said he had been using domestic bins to get rid of his rubbish.

He did not have a contract with a professional trade waste disposal firm.

Harjit Ryatt, prosecuting for Bradford Council, said the city's authorities spent £500,000 a year on cleaning up fly-tipping waste.

He said it was a matter the council took very seriously.

Ramzan, who represented himself in court, said other people may have been dumping the rubbish to try to get him into trouble.

He added that he had not left the bags there himself.

The magistrates fined him £650 with £600 costs.
