A LOCKWOOD pub has shone once again for the quality of its real ales.

The Star Inn in Albert Street has been voted Huddersfield Camra pub of the year for the second year running.

Since opening in January 2002 licensees Sam Watt and Tyrone Lawton have received several accolades from the Campaign For Real Ale.

It won spring pub of the season and best mild pub in 2002 and also won Huddersfield Camra pub of the year in the same year. This was followed by Yorkshire Camra pub of the year in 2003 and now the Huddersfield pub of the year for 2003.

Bob Tomlinson, of Huddersfield and District Camra, said the pub aimed to serve one of the widest ranges of different ales in Huddersfield and there was usually a choice of up to ten real ales.

Beers were drawn from across the country from as far north as the Orkney Islands to the Isle of Wight in the south.

He added the pub had no pool table, juke box, disco, karaoke or television but concentrated on a decent pint, good conversation and open fires.

The presentation was made by Huddersfield Camra chairman David Lyall to Sam and Tyrone.
