WOMEN across Huddersfield are getting their hips moving at belly dancing classes.

It all started with mum-of-two Debra Arnott showing off her moves to a group of fellow mums at a Marsden playgroup.

The mothers were so impressed that Debra set up classes at the local bandroom.

After growing demand she’s now joined fellow dancer Lana Diamond to form Elemental Belly Dance which offers classes at the Peacock Lounge in town.

“It’s so addictive and really good fun,” said Debra.

“You can tell when people have caught the belly dancing bug.

“Suddenly they’re wearing jingly-jangly belts and they’re off out to the shops to buy the traditional costumes.”

Debra, 44, took up Egyptian dancing 15 years ago as a form of therapy.

She said: “I was ill with a gangrenous appendix before I started dancing.

“I took up belly dancing as a way of using that part of my body again and as a form of therapy.

“It’s really good for that part of your body and loads of pregnant women do it – it’s good for toning up after pregnancy too.
