COUNCIL house residents across Huddersfield are having their kitchens refitted.

Many have complained about delays in the work and the standard of workmanship.

But at least one man has admitted his kitchen has now been transformed into a culinary heaven.

Bernard Butterworth has nothing but praise for his new kitchen, fitted as part of Kirklees Council's decent homes programme.

The 73-year-old who lives at Ravens Court, Wren Street, Paddock, said: "I'm absolutely delighted.

"All the residents in Ravens Court are dead chuffed."

Mr Butterworth added: "The finished product is beautiful."

His old kitchen was more than 20 years old.

The new model, installed by contractors from Enterprise plc, features smart units, an electric cooker and ceramic hob.

The workmen finished on Tuesday - which happened to be Mr Butterworth's birthday.

Eight residents at Ravens Court live in council properties while one is privately owned.

At the same time kitchens were being installed, new bathrooms were also fitted.

The council is spending many millions of pounds refurbishing hundreds of council properties across the district.
