ACADEMIC achievements have been handed out at Batley Grammar School's annual speech day.

Huddersfield pupils were among those receiving awards.

Prizes were presented by Dr Ingrid Roscoe, Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.

Headmaster Brian Battye spoke at the event and praised the efforts of pupils and staff during the school year.

He said they had enjoyed the best exam results in the school's history, with 61% of all A-level grades being either As or Bs.

He said: "The school has had a busy and successful year, packed with interesting events."
