BEWARE of a chain email warning people about a phone scam!

Police and Neighbourhood Watch schemes have been warning people not to respond to cards left by a company called PDS.

The chain email has been sent to thousands of people warning them about the postal and phone scam.

The email says a company called Parcel Delivery Service (PDS) is posting cards through letterboxes saying they tried to deliver a parcel.

When the recipient calls an 0906 number they are charged £15 just for making the call.

But Royal Mail says the chain email now being sent out is old and is advising people to ignore it.

The Royal Mail says the matter was cleared up in 2005 when a company based in Belize, Central America, was fined £10,000.

PhonepayPlus, the UK’s phone-paid service regulator, says it is aware of the current chain email about the alleged postal scam.

A spokesman said: “We appreciate that recipients of the email may want to find out more information about the alleged scam.

“The chain email refers to a service that was shut down by us in December, 2005.

“We subsequently fined the company that was operating the service, Belize-based Studio Telecom, £10,000.

“The service is no longer running and has not been running since December, 2005.”

The authorities are asking people not to forward the email in a bid to prevent further concern.
