THE launch of a campaign to form a new workers' party took place in Huddersfield last night.

The local launch of the national Campaign for a New Workers' Party (CNWP) took place at the Old Court House in Huddersfield Town Hall.

A spokesman for the CNWP said they were disillusioned with the £300m donated to the Labour Party over the last 25 years.

He added: "There is little to show for the investment."

A spokesman said: "We are seeking a party which will stand for public services, the welfare state and pension rights.

"Tony Blair's Labour Party appears to have abandoned these basic principles and instead seems intent on pushing through public sector reform which will further decimate public services."
