A LONG-running saga over the grounds of a Honley house becoming a wedding marquee venue could be determined today.

Essam Abdelfatah has applied for a premises licence to hold weddings and corporate functions at his Northgate Mount property.

The application, submitted in November 2011, has been opposed by neighbours concerned about an increase in noise in the residential area.

Kirklees Licensing Panel rejected the application on January 10 last year and the applicant appealed.

While the appeal was in progress, the applicant amended the scope of licensing activities in limiting live and recorded music to 9pm Monday to Wednesday, 1am Thursday to Saturday and 11pm on Sundays. They want permission for alcohol within the same time frames.

A district judge heard the application at Huddersfield Magistrates Court and referred it back to the licensing panel to determine.

Neighbours have objected to the plan saying it will create noise nuisance in the quiet residential area.

They raised concerns about live and recorded music, more traffic and an increase of people in the quiet area which lacks parking provision.

A petition with 29 names was submitted against the proposal.

The applicant has previously said the marquee would be in a field within the 11-acre grounds away from the houses, off Huddersfield Road.

The licensing panel will hear the application today at 10am in Huddersfield Town Hall.
