A COUPLE whose wedding was scuppered when The George Hotel closed are to marry.

Golcar couple Juliette Grace, 23, and Ryan Hemingway, 27 , were devastated when the hotel suddenly shut down in January – just months before their big day.

But tomorrow, all that will be put behind them when they finally tie the knot.

The couple’s shock, when they heard that The George had shut down, was made all the worse as they had paid the £2,500 balance for their wedding at the town-centre hotel just before Christmas.

At the time Juliette said they had worked three jobs between them to pay for the event and had taken a loan out.

And she said the scandal meant they would not be able to afford to wed for five or ten years.

But now the wedding is back on after Meltham hotel, Durker Roods, stepped in with a cut-price deal..

“We’ve never heard from anyone to do with The George,” said Juliette.

“But Durker Roods have been absolutely fantastic and have really saved the day for us.

“Without them this would not have happened – we wouldn’t have been getting married.”

The George remains closed but has been bought by local dentist Dr Altaf Hussein.

He has not yet revealed when he hopes to re-open the famous landmark.

THERE will also be joy tomorrow for another Huddersfield couple – stunned when a hotel shut down.

Bride-to-be Aimee Williamson and her fiance Oliver Taylor had spent months planning their wedding reception at the Hey Green Hotel in Marsden.

But they lost their £500 deposit when the hotel shut down suddenly last November.

But tomorrow, the couple will marry at St John’s Church in Lepton and then celebrate with a reception at the Pennine Manor Hotel in Scapegoat Hill.
