A SCHOOL is opening its wildlife garden to the public as part of a village event.

Netherthong Primary is taking part in the village's Garden Walk and Flower Festival on Sunday.

Twenty-three gardens will be open to the public during the event, which has been organised by All Saints' Church.

Mrs Joyce Rothwell started the garden walks more than 15 years ago and continues to organise them in aid of church funds.

Before the walk there is a Family Flower Sunday in the church at 11am and a shared lunch.

There will also be plant stalls and refreshments in the church and the final garden.

Children from Year 3 at the school are Flower King and Queen and attendants for the day.

Their head-dresses have been created by former Netherthong pupil Julia Roebuck

The school created its wildlife garden two years ago.

It has been planted with a variety of trees, shrubs and wildflowers aimed at attracting wildlife. It also includes a pond and willow archway.
